If the following three aspects of communication can be kept in mind when talking to youth soccer players, a coaches message will be heard, understood and have a lasting impact:

Terminology
Tone

TAILOR
- It is a dynamite approach and works very well when one of your youth soccer strategies is to tailor your communications style to your team and your individual players. If your team thrives on the emotion of the moment, then show the emotion. If they seem to get nervous and be afraid to be aggressive when you get load, anxious or show your nervousness, then tone it down. In the situation where you're communicating one-on-one with a player, take them aside, keep your voice from being heard by the rest of the players, and feel free to get as emotional or as frantic or as calm as you see appropriate for that player. Of the many youth soccer strategies, this one works as well with your best players that can "take it to the next level" with some forceful direction by you, the coach, as it does with the player that you just want to encourage to "try to kick the ball at least five times this shift". Tailor your words, and your tone to your players needs. You and your team will benefit greatly.

TERMINOLOGY - Explain your strategy in terms the players understand. Be consistent with your terminology. Is the player a "forward", or a "striker", or playing "offense"? Do you want your players to "go to space" or "spread out" or "create passing lanes"? It always works best if you (and your assistant coaches) can use the same terms during the heat of game time situation that you used in practice. If your players have to pause to interpret your words, your message will not get through in a timely manner. When you and your assistant coaches are devising your youth soccer strategies, this one is a must to discuss!

TONE - Your youth soccer players are, on the whole, an excitable bunch! Constant, positive feedback will generally keep them pushing harder. Negative statements with a harsh tone can turn them off, and ruin their concentration for the remainder of the game, sometimes never to recover. If you sound desperate, anxious, nervous or even mad, the players may be at an age where they will pick up on this, and may react the wrong way. While some will sense your urgency and step-up their game, most, depending on the age, will crawl in a shell and be too afraid to make the mistake that cost the team the game. One of your strategies should be a team-appropriate tone, that isn't reacted to negatively is always the best way to communicate your soccer strategy. Yes, it can work out in a one-on-one situation, in your bag of youth soccer strategies tricks, to tell your superstar (that has yet another "level") that there is only two minutes left in the game and to pull out all the stops! But those situations are as rare as those little superstars are.

It's sure that you are equipped with every single secret to effectively coach youth soccer after you finish reading this. Coaching kids about soccer is no rocket science but yes, it requires skill, knowledge, and a lot of patience. To teach youth soccer, what follows are well-known tactics. If you apply them sincerely, you team will come out as a match winner.

Motivate them to learn: You know it but how do you identify the best way to do it? Guide the players to make a choice on their own and if they make wrong choices, let go. Through this exercise, you are encouraging the kids to be more creative and most importantly, have fun.

Give every team a name: Make small teams from among the players for its convenient management. It's also a good idea to name the teams for inculcating a feeling of closeness.

Evaluate failures and success: Define the standards against which the performance would be measured to coach youth soccer. Some rules to understand this are whether the kids are enjoying the sessions. Are the kids enjoying soccer or playing as a team? Are the players learning the skill of passing, dribbling, and dealing with the ball?

Give incentives: These keep the kids going and even the advanced players, for that matter. However, the rewards don't need to be huge. Like one extra half hour's break for the winner team or permitting them to leave early. And avoid giving rewards for individual performance. This is for the reason that some players will always outshine the other players. In its place, reward entire team's efforts.

Managing poor performance: It's important in teaching soccer to carefully manage individual's poor performance affecting the entire team. For example, confront the player who regularly comes late for the sessions. Have him perform a simple act as a punishment to make others aware of such mistakes.

Similarly, parents who tend to interfere in the team's activities should also be handled like this. Do not allow that and set the record straight. As a coach, be responsible to make decisions for the team. Yet, parent's participation is also necessary to a certain level.

Become the leader: Because you are seen as a mentor, it is possible that everything you do is replicated by the players. So be sure of your demeanor in public. Be good and courteous to your colleagues, opposite team, and fellow team members. Get to the sports ground for practice sessions prior to the players. Never criticize the referee or the players when in a practice match.

Qualifications

Youth soccer referees must meet the criteria set forth by the sponsoring organization. Most leagues follow regulations established by FIFA. Hire a referee who:
Completes beginning certification. This means the official is a "grade eight" and can be an assistant referee.
Knows hand signals. Referees use hand signals throughout a match.
Is at least 13 years old. This is the minimum age requirement for a referee.

Associations

Typically, assignments are distributed by the youth league assignor. First-time or beginning soccer referees officiate games involving younger players. It is the responsibility of the referee to notify the assignor of any possible conflicts, including conflicts of interest.

State associations maintain a list of referees interested in working at tournaments. Contact the appropriate association for additional information.

Grades

A soccer referee associated with FIFA is given a referee grade which indicates what level of competition the referee may oversee.

Grade 2 referees are assistants to Grade 1 referees.
Grades 3 and 4 referees oversee professional matches. A grade 3 referee may be considered for international competition.
Grades 5 and 6 officiate amateur leagues in state competitions. A grade 5 official may be considered for national officiating duties.
Grade 7 referees possess experience and may officiate in competitions in the state the referee is certified in.
Grade 8 referees have completed a referee training course and may officiate local matches.

In kids soccer drills, this is for sure that anyone who has played the sport will understand the importance of dribbling in the game. It's the ability of the player to move around in the ground with the ball and simultaneously keep it with him. The kids are first and foremost trained the art of dribbling at a starting level.

However, the amount of importance of dribbling skills is vital to settle on. For your kids to become experts in dribbling skills, it's best to have them do regular drills. The kids would therefore learn the art of maneuvering the ball well. It's the skill of dribbling while maintaining contact with the ball which lets you leave behind several opponents in the play ground.

To become a good dribbler, you need to spend time with the ball and take to heart these key fundamentals. Kids soccer drills coach the kids to use the surface of their foot. It is the front side of their instep that kids use very frequently when they dribble the ball at a great speed.

But make sure that the kids have mastered the art of using both inside and outside of their feet in becoming great dribblers. This helps the kids to retain the ball's control despite the direction from which opponents strike. Like in case of a hockey stick, train them on using their feet's both sides.

It's pertinent in soccer drills for kids to guarantee that kids come into contact with the ball at each step. The ball is tapped keeping it in front while dribbling it. This allows the young players to take good control and increase the dribbling speed with the ball.

This will elude the opponents defending the ball when they attempt to come closer to get it. So initiate step by step and make it certain that kids are increasingly feeling associated with the ball in each step.

Teach young players in youth soccer drills to keep changing the pace. So as to defeat the opposing team in dribbling, it's not required for the kids to be exceedingly fast. Instead, make the defender snooze for a moment and rush past the opponent at immense speed.

Guide the kids to constantly keep an eye on the ball. While dribbling kids must remain aware of the events in the filed and pay attention on the ball simultaneously.

Guide them in bettering their weak foot. Soccer drills for youth will help get their weak foot improve gradually by continuously hitting the ball against the wall with the same weak foot. In the spare time, kids should play about with a soccer ball. Tell them to sit down, take a ball and use the weaker foot to just roll it back and forth. The ability to retain the control of the ball will improve with regular practice.

So, there you have it! The kids soccer drills should train the kids on using their body to save the ball. When in close contact with the defender, make use of the body to shield the ball. How to get back into the game in soccer? Goalkeeper?

Ok. I am a 6'4", 17 yr old male who hasn't played soccer since I was like 10 or 11. I have great relexes so i plan to get back to Goalkeeping. How do I get up to game speed and make the high school team next year as a Junior. Any suggestings? Also i work part time ... should i quit? or what?
Ok i'm deffently not afrade to get dirty and brused. (isn't that was the chicks like? lol) Wingspan is about 6'3". And I don't think I have the speed and moves to play in the middle part of the field. But my main concern isn't getting fit enough but weather or not i have the time. What should I do about my work?
Also I would perfer to be a Goalkeeper because I can punt the hell outta the ball also, my older brother was a goalkeeper when he was a freshmen at NKU (Northern Kentucky Univaristy). He was also really good but I don't think he'll keep playing in collage.

My brother is one of the best goalkeepers I've ever seen, and it's not as easy as you're making it sound. You might try to find a trainer in your area, because goalkeeping is something that you can be taught without the use of the team until later to prepare for games. The height is definitely a plus, but it can also slow you down. What's your wingspan (fingertip to fingertip). Hopefully that's just as wide, but you also have to be willing to dive for the ball and get dirty and bruised.

Goalkeeping is almost a sport unto itself.

Soccer Goalies

Keep in mind that soccer goalies wear a uniform that is different than the field player. Soccer goalies must wear a color that is different from their own team, and the opposing team, so a referee can easily identify the goalkeeper.

A soccer goalie also gets to wear a long sleeve shirt, with some elbow padding, and shorts that usually have some padding on the sides. This helps to absorb some of the pressure of those frequent dives for the ball. They will sometimes wear long goalkeeper pants depending on field and weather conditions.

One very simple yet effective tool for improving soccer footwork is sticks. Whether you purchase some, use kindling, or use fallen twigs (make sure they are straight) you can create a great training course with them.

Have sticks that are 4-5 feet long and 1x1 inch and lay them down so they look like the rungs of a ladder. You can then have the players do running, hopping, and ball work.

Running - running drills can includes stepping once or twice between each stick, shuffling sideways between them (they can change direction at each turn), or running between the sticks lengthwise.

Hopping - players can hop on one foot or two feet, they can hop forward and backward, they can hop sideways, they can alternate feet.

Ball Practice - dribbling around the sticks, passing the ball through and sprinting after it, shuffling between the sticks and pushing the ball from the end of one stick to the next stick (position balls at both ends of each stick for this one), passing exercise through the channels between the sticks.

Goalkeeper Practice - goalkeepers can practice catching and saving balls while shuffling through channels or sprinting through them

The possibilities are endless. You can use your imagination to come up with an infinite supply of drills and activities that will improve the player's speed and precision

Here's another easy way to improve footwork soccer skills:

ZigZag (speedwork)

Set up a series of five to seven cones, flags, or other objects as markers in a zigzag and mark the beginning and end of the course with two pylons at each end.

Step1: There should be five yards between the beginning of the course and the first zigzag marker, between each of the zigzag markers, and between the final zigzag marker and the end of the course.

Step2: Have two players run the course together.

Step3: When they start, they sprint to the each marker and they must touch beside the marker with their near foot (the left foot for P1 and the right foot for P2).

You can change the angle of the turn the players make by widening out the markers, so you can have them practice turning at more acute angles.

The ability of a player to change directions quickly is fundamental to the game of soccer and this will help them learn to adjust their stride to compensate for foot placement and turning. In this drill, they need to see every marker as a ball.

Although it may be impossible to accurately state when and where the game of soccer originated, history has shown us glimpses of a game similar to our present day version being played for over 3000 years.

Around the 2nd or 3rd Century BC, it was documented that the Chinese military during the Han Dynasty played a game involving kicking a ball into a small net.

A game similar to soccer was played by the ancient Greeks and Romans but their game could include up to 27 players on a side compared to the modern day game of 11 players to a side.

Soccer became one of the most popular sports of the masses due to its popularity as a war game. A game of "football" which the British called it, was played in the east of England during the 8th Century where the head of a defeated Danish Prince was used as the ball.

During medieval times, villages and towns were pitted against each other in game battles that could take all day. There were no structured rules to abide by and kicking, biting, gouging and punching turned the game into a virtual battle of survival. These matches became so violent that the English authorities made many attempts to have soccer banned.

King Edward III from England passed laws in 1331 to abolish the game and Queen Elizabeth I had a law passed that provided a one week jail sentence for anyone caught playing soccer.

Despite these efforts, the game of soccer became so popular in England over the next few centuries that it evolved as the most popular sport of its time.

At this point, the only shortcoming of the sport was its lack of rules or standards. In 1815, Eton College, a famous English school, established a set of rules to be implemented by other schools, colleges and universities.

A standardized version of these rules were later adopted in 1848 by most of England's colleges and universities that were known as the Cambridge Rules.

Unfortunately, at this point, there were still two different sets of rules being used. Some colleges favored the Rugby Rules which allowed carrying the ball with your hands, tripping and kicking to the shins. which were contrary to the Cambridge Rules.

In 1863, The Football Association was created by eleven English soccer clubs and schools to establish a single set of rules to be enforced when they played against each other.

The supporters of the Rugby School rules objected to the changes and the two groups split apart. The Football Association later changed the rules in 1869 where they forbade the use of hands, except by the goalie, which led us to the game of soccer as we know it today.

The English still called it a game of "football" because the ball was played primarily with the feet but in the late 18th Century, the word, "soccer", was first used by a student of Oxford University by the name of Charles Wreford Brown. The students at Oxford were known for using slang where they added "er" to the end of words that they intentionally shortened. The game of Rugby was called "rugger". Brown shortened the word "association" and added "er" and the term "soccer" was born.

Since the 19th Century the game has evolved to where it is today. It is the World's Game that is played by more people than any other sport and is universally recognized as the most popular game in sports history.

The World Cup which is held every four years to crown a World Champion draws millions of spectators to the 32 games played and is watched by billions of fans from around the globe thanks to modern day satellite television technology.

The popularity of soccer continues to grow as organized youth soccer programs are getting a young fan base involved at an early age which will fuel its growth for years to come.
